Alexis Felix duPont, IV was born in Greenville, Delaware on April 26, 1944 to Mr. and Mrs. Eleuthere Paul duPont, Jr.
He is the seventh generation of Samuel Francis duPont and Eleuthere Srine duPont, the founder of the E.I. duPont De Nemours Foundation, started in 1802 Wilmington, Delaware.
Mr. duPont's love for marine art started at a young age in his home from sailing on his grandfather's sailboat, the "Austraila," at the age of six years old. He entered the United States Coast Guard in 1966 with two (2) tours of duty as a gunner's mate first class on the U.S.S. Winnebago. He was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii.
He did combat on the ship, and shot a 50 caliber machine gun. He was awarded the Congressional Metal of Honor and Purple Heart for bravery by President Lyndon B. Johnson and was also his private Honor Guard.
He was commissioned to do many paintings over 50 for various galleries in the Chaddsford, Pennsylvania area.

He attended the University of Richmond, Virginia before going to Viet-Nam, and then the Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania to complete his education in 1971 for two more years.
He was tragically killed by a Septa train on February 5, 1986.
